Congratulations to Tara and Reiko on their new paper, Inferring antifungal drug synergy from Candidozyma auris optical density data using Bayesian mechanistic modelling! This study presents a novel Bayesian mechanistic modelling framework that uses optical density data alone to identify synergistic antifungal drug combinations, quantify their effects over time, and distinguish between fungicidal and fungistatic activity. Applying the approach to multidrug-resistant Candidozyma auris, the authors successfully detected known synergistic drug interactions and inferred clinically relevant patterns of drug action. The findings provide an important foundation for high-throughput screening of antifungal combinations, helping to accelerate the discovery of more effective therapies against drug-resistant fungal infections.
